What to avoid

My Unorthodox Life
A Netflix series about a matriarch who replaced her uber-restrictive Ultra-Orthodox Jewish life with splashy consumerism, vibrators and skimpy designer clothes. The matriarch lacks elegance, manipulates her children, and reinvents hedonism. A Cinderella story, including an Italian fairy godfather (the career enabler) and plenty of stereotypes the happy end however oozes vulgarity. The Kardashians must go green with envy, Jews must feel deeply upset and the global community of mothers angry over the obvious child abuse.

Too Much Water
Most of us made the resolution to drink more water because we want to prevent cognitive deficiencies and above all, stay young forever. Drinking too much water can be as bad as drinking too little because your salt and electrolyte levels will literally go down the drain. Which can cause weakness, headaches We need about 20ml per half of our body weight, so don´t challenge yourself to drink an excessive amount of water.

Beware of Tote Bags
Are you, like me, convinced tote bags are eco friendly and using them helps to alleviate the climate crisis? Now here is the truth, the Danish Ministry of Environment found, in order to be truly eco-friendly one tote bag must be used 20.000 times, which is the equivalent of one tote bag being used every day for 54 years. Why? The production of tote bags needs an enormous amount of water, bear PVC based logos, could entail unethical labour practices and compostability is questionable. That should make us rethink, even if they are giveaways.

Time to breathe
Time to give your skin time to breathe. High coverage make-up, multiple layer contouring, heavy highlighting, caky concealer and powder baking are out. The use of a primer, a thin layer of foundation, some rouge, well-groomed natural-looking but tamed eyebrows, mascara and some lipsticks (except shades of brown), is all you need. Aim for the no-makeup makeup look to be trendy.

Slavery at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam
Never before has a museum in Europe addressed the European´s role in the slave trade with such sensitivity. Sadly the exhibition ended on the 29th of August and I missed it. Intrigued I visited their “stories” website “Slavery – Rijksmuseum 10 people, 10 Stories” – a very carefully curated exhibition, a very personal show which speaks about an uncomfortable past in the best possible language.
