Venice Biennale 2022

The 59th Biennale will be under the direction of curator Cecilia Alemani. The event was twice-postponed and will now go ahead in Venice from April 23rd through November 27th 2022. The title  “The Milk of Dreams,” is taken from Surrealist artist Leonora Carrington’s absurdist book, first published in the 1950s.

Expressionists for sale

The Gerlinger Collection, a private collection of around 1,000 works of German Expressionism will be sold by Ketterer Kunst, Munich, Germany. The proceeds will benefit three charitable organisations. The world’s biggest collections of German Expressionism will be auctioned over the next four years. The first lot will be auctioned in June.

Too many auctions

While the world’s wealthiest scramble to pay multiple-estimate prices for works of art by the newest kids on the auction block, the market for less fashionable Old Masters continues to struggle. Sotheby’s and Christie’s first live December evening auctions were 19.5% down on the total achieved at the equivalent sales in 2019.

About hair

Do you know where all the hair go once your dead ends are swept out of sight at the salon? Hair, is an organic material, in theory, it ought to break down naturally, but it doesn´t. Hair doesn’t biodegrade that quickly — it takes a couple of years. The amount of nitrogen produced by decaying human hair can cause various forms of water pollution.

Celebrity obsession

A recent study from a group of Hungarian nerds claims that people who are more obsessed with celebrities tend to score lower on cognitive tests. Really? Maybe, the results may have less to do with intelligence and more to do with a person’s difficulty dedicating attention to anything that doesn’t relate to their obsession of choice.

Meme Culture in Fashion

In October something significant happened the Met Gala got its first official “meme correspondent”. Saint Hoax, a Syrian artist. Hoax a meme-influencer was enlisted by Instagram, one of the Met Gala’s 2021 sponsors. He was to attend the event and live meme the red carpet arrivals to help generate more social media reach, engagement and therefore coverage, of the night.
