Right to repair

All who thought the Apple Self-Repair set is a gift sent from heaven need to reconsider. Apple‘s tool kit made waves when it was released in 2021 because it was a turning point for the right-to-repair movement. Tone down any excitement it seems to be designed to fail. The self-repair program seems to be impractical for most people. For starters, the cost of renting the equipment and purchasing parts from Apple — $96 to replace an iPhone 12’s battery — was more than the $69 an Apple store charges to do the job. A journalist’s experience shows that the process was challenging even with Apple’s tools. Apple discourages most people from trying self-repair.
