Skincare focused on the microbiome isn’t exactly new, but an image problem has kept it flying relatively under the radar until now – after all, bacteria doesn’t really have a lot of skincare sex appeal. microbiome-based skincare is focused on achieving optimal skin health and, contrary to what a lot of skincare brands will tell you, healthy skin isn’t necessarily flawless in the aesthetic sense all the time.

Extensive multi-step routines are definitely out. No one has enough surface on their face to get through 25 serums before they expire. More importantly, all this skincare consumption is leading to some very confused complexions, often even worsening the condition. The overuse of skincare often leads to damage to the skin barrier.

Blue Light Protection

Forget about pore-clogging creams and barely-there sprays. SPF mousse with blue light protection is the most recent innovation that is being improved to protect our skin not just from UV radiation but also from HEV (high-energy visible) light. There will be a rise in this new type of SPF product to protect us from blue light exposure given that we spend so much of our time in front of screens and digital devices.

Mexico City is experiencing is back on the travel scene. In-the-know travellers flock there for its vibrant food, art and nightlife. Make a tour to the Xochimilco floating gardens, or a tour with the hot air balloon over Teotihuacan pyramids or treat yourself to a Temazcal ritual by a Shamana.

Ecuador

In January, the president established a new reserve that will triple the size of the Galapagos Islands’ protected area. It will extend all the way to Costa Rica, effectively creating a superhighway for fragile marine life. Among the unique species travellers can only see—or perhaps better said, encounter—in the islands are marine iguanas (the only seafaring iguanas), Galapagos tortoises (who can live to be 150 years old) and Darwin’s famous finches (essential to the theory of evolution).
